About me
I'm an ecologist passionate about understanding biodiversity through big data, spatial ecology, and ecological modeling. My work focuses on uncovering patterns in species distribution and ecosystem responses to global change, integrating taxonomy, traits, and genetics. I lead a multidisciplinary team as Head of the Data Management and Analysis Unit, where I drive innovation in ecological research through software development, data infrastructure, and collaborative workflows. Committed to open science, I develop tools in R and Python to make research more efficient, accessible, and impactful.
Work Experience
University of the Balearic Islands, Palma, Spain
-
I lead scientific research in functional ecology, biodiversity big-data analysis, spatial modeling, and biodiversity knowledge gap assessment. I design and manage Balearica, the biodiversity data platform for the Balearic Islands, and develop tools such as biodumpy, a Python package for biodiversity data processing, and specifind, an AI-based tool for species and occurrence search.
-
Relevant project: High-resolution climate change information of
Balearic Islands for multidisciplinary applications.
[Barcelona Supercomputing Center]
Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Istituto di Ricerca Sulle Acque, Verbania, Italy
-
I analyzed high-frequency monitoring data to evaluate the chemical and physical quality of various lakes located between Italy and Switzerland as part of the SIMILE Project.
University of Parma, Parma, Italy
-
During this period, I worked with macroinvertebrate communities in Northern Italy, collecting samples to assess the ecological status of the Oglio River and to study the relationship between changes in these communities and the ecological minimum flow.
